TADS SUMMARY - Telecom App Developer Summit - Event Summary

The Telecom Application Developer Summit took place from 21-22 Nov 2013 in Bangkok, the slides are now available here, the videos and photos will be available soon. TADS is much more than just 2 days in Bangkok. Our objective with TADS is to help build the telecom application developer ecosystem from the grassroots, to expand the community of developers that can use telecoms in their applications, services and businesses. And in doing so the whole ecosystem will benefit from their combined energy, innovations, ideas, technologies and reach. This is how the web works, and we’re simply copying it.

TADS is important to telcos, by 2018 there could be a $100B revenue hole because of competition in messaging and voice services from IP-based providers, and customers’ expectations on what internet access should cost. The industry has stagnated for too long, and not kept the core product fresh and relevant to its customers, as we see in other service and high tech industries. The Telecom Application Developer ecosystem has the potential to close that gap by keeping telecoms fresh and relevant and in doing so create a $100B market for us all to share in.

Qualcomm Technologies Introduces Snapdragon 410 Chipset with Integrated 4G LTE World Mode for High-Volume Smartphones
Qualcomm Technologies has introduced the Qualcomm Snapdragon410 chipset with integrated 4G LTE World Mode. The new Snapdragon 410 chipsets are manufactured using 28nm process technology. They feature processors that are 64-bit capable along with superior graphics performance with the Adreno 306 GPU, 1080p video playback and up to a 13 Megapixel camera. Snapdragon 410 chipsets integrate 4G LTE and 3G cellular connectivity for all major modes and frequency bands across the globe and include support for Dual and Triple SIM. more here
Telkomsel Partners with Jasper Wireless to Power M2M and Internet of Things in Indonesia
Telkomsel has announced that it is partnering with Jasper Wireless, the connected devices platform powering the mobile Internet of Things, to deliver machine-to-machine (M2M) connectivity to enterprises. The cloud-based platform is enabling businesses across the gamut of verticals to bring M2M services quickly to market and centrally manage each connected device on the network. more here
Telecom New Zealand Partners with Huawei to Launch 'Ultra Mobile' 4G LTE Network
Huawei today announced that it had helped Telecom New Zealand launch a new "Ultra Mobile" 4G LTE network that can provide speeds of up to 150 Mb/s to mobile subscribers in parts of cities Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. Huawei provided a convergent radio access network (RAN) technology solution for the network with an accompanying operations management platform that will provide an impressive overall speed boost for Telecom's customers. more here
